To understand home care today, watch Four Corners.

Monday Club Four Corners

Last night, Monday 17 August, the ABC’s Four Corners screened its investigation into the state of government delivered home care in Australia today. It is an accurate story.

As some Monday Club members are aware, both Jill and I have deep experience in Australia’s aged care system. We can confirm that the ABC’s report identifying that close to 150,000 people who have been assessed as needing ageing support in their home are on a wait list that can extend well over twelve months.

The average age is 82. Many of these people live alone and are frail. It is a grim picture.

The simple fact is that the government cannot afford the huge number of baby boomers now entering the aged care system, which is why we have established Monday Club.

It is vitally important that we all invest in our strength and community so that we delay or avoid entering the aged care system.

The Four Corners program is important and we recommend you view it to understand the state of aged care in Australia today.
