Why we established Monday Club

With 20 years’ experience in the ageing sector, such as retirement villages and residential aged care, we look around us and see a lot of people approaching frailty without realising it.

In healthcare, frailty is a distinct clinical condition. Doctors typically measure it by looking for a combination of these indicators:

    • Fatigue or low energy
    • Low physical activity levels
    • Slow walking speed
    • Weak grip strength

It’s about losing muscle, losing flexibility in our bodies, and losing connection with other people.

It is not a late ageing thing. Think early 70s as when frailty starts creeping in.

Disability threshold

We have seen the people who accept frailty ending up having 10 or more years of bad ageing, which looks like many visits to the doctor, often with chronic pain, and a narrowing world. People find they can do less, including less social activity, which can lead to loneliness, which in itself is very damaging to our overall health.

We have also seen that common sense activities like a bit of strength training, a bit of flexibility and mobility activity, and socializing with more people will combat frailty and deliver 10-20 years of very good ageing.

This is what Monday Club offers.

Importantly we are a safe environment for people who have never been to a gym. Our expert exercise physiologists have deep experience in people 50+. We are not a gym. We have no mirrors, no loud music, only safe effective strength-building equipment and programs.

Plus a friendly atmosphere to meet new friends.

In the eight weeks since we opened, we are seeing really positive results with members in every area – strength, movement, laughter. It is very satisfying.

If you haven’t already, come and visit. We are open from 5:30am to 7:00pm Mon – Fri, plus 7:30am to 12:00pm Sat & Sun.
